Nursery Home Learning Week 5 - Transport topic 18/05/2020
Welcome to week 5 of the Nursery Learning Zone.
This week we are super excited to begin our new topic 'Transport'. Over the next three weeks we will be learning all about different kinds of transport and journeys, spending each week focusing on types of transport that either run on land, in the air or on the sea. This week we will be learning all about different kinds of transport that people use on land.
Transport is a particularly enjoyable topic in Nursery as the children can relate and build upon their own knowledge and experiences of different types of transport and vehicles.
In early literacy we will be sharing the story 'Duck in the Truck' by Jez Alborogh and further developing our knowledge of syllables including learning the new skill of syllable deletion. We will also be practising our name recognition skills and writing a letter or drawing a picture to say thank you to someone who has helped us.
In early numeracy we will be extending our knowledge of shapes and sorting for different properties including the very tricky task of working out the best shape for a particular purpose e.g the wheel of a car or lid of a box. This will also help to develop your child's critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Our topic play indoors and outdoors will involve lots of creative transport crafts, small world role play, delicious cooking and even some experiments and surveys!
We would love to take this opportunity to thank you for all the hard work and dedication you have shown during our castles topic we have been truly blown away by the amazing work you have shared so far and cannot wait to see what amazing things you accomplish during our transport topic.

Road Safety
Although children of Nursery age should never be unaccompanied by a road it is important to start instilling road safety skills and values as soon as possible.
Talk to your child about safety crossing the road using the 4 important steps STOP LOOK LISTEN THINK The video below will help to explain this in a child friendly way. Children should also be reminded to stay safe they must - Hold an adults hand when crossing a road Learn the traffic light system - our song of the week will help with this. Always wear a helmet on their bike or scooter Sit in a car seat during all car journeys Wear bright and colourful clothes when it is dull or dark outside to help drivers see them. For more information on road safety including some games and stories to help explain it to your child visit https://www.think.gov.uk/education-resources/explore-education-resources/?age%5B0%5D=3-to-6 |
Rhyme of the Week
Our rhyme of the week this week is the traffic light song. Have a go at singing along. You could even play the traffic light game with your child during your daily exercise. In an open space shout red for your child to stop and freeze, amber for them to get ready by running on the spot and green as a signal for them to go.
Twinkle Twinkle Traffic Light
Twinkle twinkle traffic light
On the corner shining bright
Red means stop
Green means go
Amber means get ready to go
