Week 9 - Summer Fun! 15/06/20
It's hard to believe that we're on our final week of school via the Learning Zone! We have so appreciated your participation, creativity and flexibility as we've navigated this new learning platform together. We've loved seeing (through your home learning photos and videos) how the children have tackled and overcome so many new challenges in each of our subject areas. It's amazing to see their growth in every way! We couldn't let this week go by without celebrating the children's wonderful achievements over the last 3 months! Check out the photo highlight reels for each class below!
Mrs. Thom's Nursery
Mrs. Wright's Nursery
As mentioned last week, usually at this stage of the year, the children would be preparing for and participating in Sports Day, getting to know their new teachers and visiting their new classroom environments. While we're saddened that this can't happen in person this year, we hope that this week's activities will reflect the spirit behind these important events in our school calendar.
This week's learning will include ideas of how to carry out your very own Sports Day at home, either in your garden or on the beach. Don't forget to take a break to enjoy a tasty orange slice, ice pop or cold drink! We've also included some activities that you can work through with your child to help them to prepare for their transition to Year 1 and for meeting their new teacher(s).
We received some brilliant '30 Day Challenge' pictures last week! We hope you continue to enjoy the 30 Days of Play, Funky Fingers and Wild Outdoors, which can be accessed again by clicking on the buttons below. Don't forget to send us some pictures of the challenges you complete!

Week 9 - Sports Day
Egg & Spoon Race
Is it even Sports Day without an egg and spoon race?! The equipment is easy for this one - prepare plenty of hard-boiled eggs and gather up some dessert spoons! Make a start/finish line with rope or you could draw the lines with chalk or in the sand. You could set different distances if you have different ages in the same race. Ready, set... GO!

Tin Can Alley
Set up a pyramid using empty tin cans or paper cups turned upside down. Each person throws three bean bags/socks rolled into balls at the tin cans/paper cups from a distance (behind a cone or line) You could set different distances if you have different ages playing together and add challenge by increasing the distance away from the tin cans! The aim is to get the cans knocked over in as few throws as possible. For a family team game, you could set up two games and the team to have all their players succeed in knocking all the cans down first wins!

Obstacle Course
Create an obstacle course by setting up 3 of the following activities and demonstrate what your child needs to do at each obstacle. You could time your child and see if they can do it even faster next time! You could also adjust the level of difficulty for older/younger siblings.
- Hula Hoop Hop - place hoops on the ground (or draw circles) and demonstrate how to hop from one to the other. To make it slightly harder, make sure there is a gap between them so they need to use them like stepping stones.
- Tunnel - create a tunnel using a play tunnel or by placing chairs or benches next to each other with a blanket draped over the top. See if your child can crawl through on all fours!
- Bucket Run - Fill a bucket of items you'd bring to the beach (suncream, sunglasses, towel, spade, etc.) Pick one item out of the bucket and run to another bucket placed a little distance away and drop the item in. Keep going until the original bucket is empty!
- Bean Bag Toss - Throw a bean bag/tennis ball/socks rolled into a ball into a bucket from a distance. You could set different distances if you have different ages using the same course.
- Chair Crawl - using chairs, set up a zig zag pattern and the children need to crawl through each chair in turn to get to the next stage of the course.
- Hop 'Til You Drop - create a series of cones or markers that the children need to hop between.
- Low Tightrope Walk - Walk along a tightrope drawn in chalk, drawn in the sand, or made with a line of tape.
End of Year Transition Activities
My Memories Of Nursery
Paint or draw a picture of your favourite memory of Nursery. You could ask a grown up to write a sentence about your picture underneath or have a go at copying some of the letters yourself. Please make sure to share photos of you with your paintings on seesaw, we would love to see them and share them with your friends. We even hope to make a video of every child with their favourite Nursery memory for the school website and our Facebook page too.

Well done on a fantastic term of work, despite the varying challenges you undoubtedly faced. We have thoroughly enjoyed teaching your children this year and can't wait to see how they continue to thrive in Year 1.
The school will be open next week from 23rd - 25th June for you to collect your child's End of Year Report and any Lost Property. We will be in touch on SeeSaw with further details about the phased plan for returning to school as soon as it becomes available to us. We thank you for your patience with this.
We wish your child all the very best as they continue on to their next stage of learning in Year 1 and hope you all have a wonderful, restful Summer. Take care!
