Well done for the start you've made!
Thank you so much for sending in your KWL grids as well as some of the research that you've been doing. It's clear to me that many of you are fast on your way to becoming Titanic experts, even at this early stage! I wonder can any eagle-eyed pupils send me a message on SeeSaw to tell me they've spotted something not quite right in this Titanic picture that I'd used last week? There is something my picture has that the original Titanic didn't... Thanks to everyone who has sent in pictures. Don't worry if yours isn't here yet, I'll be adding more over the coming weeks!

Literacy - Life in 1910
Things were very different in Northern Ireland in 1910... how many years ago? The building of the Titanic had already begun in Belfast, at Harland and Wolff. Click the button below to visit a BBC page and learn about how people lived, what people ate and how children would spend their day!
Then imagine you are living in Belfast in 1910.... Write at least one paragraph as your own diary entry from 1910 and describe your day! Are things a bit cramped in your room/house? Are you excited about the big ship being built at the docks and can you see it from your house? Would you like to work there, or even get to travel on it someday? Do you have a funny, sinking, feeling about it? Or are you just excited to play kick-can or marbles? Use the video from the web page to help you come up with a few ideas to help you, and send your work to me via Seesaw.

Numeracy
Function Machines are a really simple way to practice mental maths, especially the two-step machines. They're also a perfect reminder of how important it is to read the full question!
Have a go at these - answers are attached! Use the same password as before to open the file. When you're done, you could either have someone at home create a new set for you to solve, or you could create your own for someone to solve! Personalise it with artwork and draw your machine to look like whatever you want! I'd love to see some of your ideas, so do send pictures!
Can you spot a quicker method for solving the final five questions? Is there a way to just have one step for those questions instead of two?

World Around Us
Anna has been learning about some of the different countries in Europe. She's produced a terrific piece of geography work. Can you research some of the countries within a continent, as Anna has done? It doesn't necessarily have to be Europe; take a look at each continent before you choose which one to research. Like Anna, make note of their capital city and recreate their flag. Remember to use a ruler for the rectangular outline of each flag. |
Reaching Out
I'm sure you all keep hearing that this is a very strange time - and it is! However, so many people across the country are helping us all in lots of different ways. A nice way for you to do the same is to say thank you, or to let someone know you are thinking of them.
Cerys recently made a lovely birthday card for Captain Tom Moore, who turns 100 this Thursday and has raised over £29million for the NHS. Sophie made a beautiful chalk message on her patio to thank the NHS, who look after all of us. Think of a way that you could show someone you're thinking of them. You could write a note, make a card, draw a picture, create a poem/song, make a film... it's up to you!
Choose the person that you would like to show kindness towards. You might choose Captain Tom, the NHS, your postman, shop assistants, delivery drivers, other key workers or even a neighbour or relative that you think might appreciate a message of kindness. Ask a parent to attach a picture of your message on Seesaw and I will add them to the slideshow here!

PE
There are always ways to exercise at home. It's important to maintain your fitness and keep building those skill levels. This can be done either indoors or outdoors and it's great to see variety!
You could be joining in with Joe Wicks, making baskets like Alice (how many can you make in a row?), creating a golf course like Conal or cycling like Lucy! Or maybe you have a different idea of your own! Set yourself a target/challenge and go for it! I'd be delighted to see any photos/videos! |
