Week 3 - Build a Fort (or Castle!)
|
This week, can you work with an adult or an older sibling to build a fort or castle? Click on the video to get some ideas. Gather up what you'll need:
Once your fort or castle is built, you can pretend that you are a knight, a king, a queen or a jester in the castle! Make sure you have your homemade sword, shield or crown at the ready, just in case you have visitors! Can you come up with a secret password to let others inside? We can't wait to see pictures of your fort or castle! |
Week 3 - Castle Cardboard Creations
Choose a castle prop that you'd like to make: a sword, a shield or a crown. Using a large piece of corrugated cardboard (or a cereal box), draw a large outline of your chosen prop. Remember, your outline must touch the corners of your BIG piece of cardboard with your pencil and it can't be too skinny or else it will break easily! An adult will help you to cut it out.
Once your prop is cut out, it's ready to be decorated. Gather up some paints, stickers, tinfoil, bottle caps and anything else in your recycling bin that could add detail to your prop. Check out the pictures below for some ideas on how to decorate your sword, shield or crown. Can you name the shapes that you see on your sword, shield or crown?

Week 3 - Play-Doh Banquet
Imagine you are having a banquet at a castle. Why not get dressed up as if you are a knight, king, queen or jester? Set the table with plates, spoons, knives and forks. Use your play-doh to create a banquet. Have a look at the picture for ideas. What food can you see? Can you make a loaf of bread, some potatoes, fruit and meat?
Once your banquet is laid out, invite an adult or others in your family to join you at your special banquet. You could announce it using your scroll! Use a spoon to serve some food onto your guests' plates. Can you use your knife and fork to cut up the food on your plate? |
Week 3 - Horse & Knight Board Game
Click on the button below to download the Horse and Knight board game. You will also need a dice and something to use as counters. This is a 2-player game.
To set up, cut out the horse and knight cards on page 2 and 3 and stack them upside down on top of the horse and knight on the board. To play, roll the dice. (See if you can say how many spots are on the dice without having to count them!) Jump your counter from 'Start' counting up to the number you got. If you land on a horse, pick up a horse card and 'NAME THE SHAPE.' If you land on a knight, pick up a knight card and 'COUNT THE SYLLABLES.' If you get it right, you can keep the card! The person with the most cards at the finish line is the winner! |
Week 3 - Cooking Recipe - Knight's Shield Pizza
This week's cooking recipe is Knight's Shield Pizza! Click on the button below to download the recipe.
If you don't have pizza dough or the ingredients to make your own dough, you could use a tortilla wrap as a base instead and cut it out in the shape of a knight's shield! Using your favourite toppings, can you make a pattern? See if any of the toppings look like the shapes we've been learning about in Early Numeracy! We can't wait to see your pictures! |
Week 4 - 11/05/20
Construct a Small World Castle - OR - Fire Breathing Dragon
We loved seeing pictures of your life-sized castle creations last week! This week, let’s see if you can make a mini cardboard castle using cardboard tubes/kitchen rolls/toilet rolls/boxes from your recycling bin and attach them with glue or tape. When you’re finished sticking your castle together, you could paint the outside. Have a look at the pictures for some ideas! Do you have some small lego men and dinosaurs that you could pretend are kings, queens, knights and dragons who live in the castle? Maybe you could make some small characters out of your play-doh if not!
If you made a castle last week and would like to create something different this week, you could make a fire-breathing dragon head instead using a painted paper cup, some coloured tissue paper/paper, pompoms/play doh and some googly eyes! Can you cut out the fire strips by yourself? Now, see if you can scare others living in your house by making your dragon roar!

Week 4 - Role Play 'Flying Doctors'
Did you build an indoor or outdoor castle last week? That’s great! Using your castle as a den, pretend that you are one of the characters from the story starting your new job as an air ambulance (like Zog) or as a flying doctor (like Princess Pearl or Sir Gadabout). Have a think about what a flying doctor might need in their bag. Pack your bag with Princess Pearl’s essentials: bandages, plasters, a thermometer and sweets! Hide your teddies and dolls around your house or garden. Finally, put on your Mum or Dad’s old white shirt as a doctor’s coat and you’re ready to go! Once you have set up your game, pretend that you are flying around helping your poor teddies and dolls who have all sorts of illnesses! Click on button below to see some of the things that might be wrong with your teddies and dolls and think about what you could give to them to make them feel better!

Week 4 - Play-Doh Crowns
Using your play-doh, a rolling pin and a butter knife, can you make a crown fit for a princess/queen/king? Can you cut out small play-doh triangles for the spikes on your crown? And a big rectangle for the base? Hunt for small items around your house that you could use to decorate your crown; buttons, plastic jewels, sprinkles and seeds. Can you name any of the shapes you used to decorate your crown? Maybe you could cut out the shapes that you are missing from coloured paper to add to your crown!

Week 4 - Recipe - Fruity Frozen Yoghurt Bites
Did you know that after breathing fire all day, dragons like to cool down by eating Fruity Frozen Yoghurt Bites? This week’s recipe is really healthy and easy to make. Make sure you hide your Fruity Frozen Yoghurt Bites really well in the freezer in case Zog sniffs them out! Click the button for the recipe below. Remember, you can use any fruit you already have at home!
