Today we are learning to use the number names to ten!
1.
Watch this rap video about spelling the number names – have a dance along!
2.
Write the numbers 0-10 on individual squares of paper and ask your child to put them in order from 0-10, saying each number as they do this.
Give them the number names zero to five on individual squares of paper and ask them to match them to the correct numeral. Then show your child the words six to ten on individual squares of paper. See if your child knows what any of them are. Tell your child the ones they don’t know. Point out clues such as ‘nine’ starting with an ‘n’. They may be able to use their sounds knowledge to sound out six, seven and ten. Eight is a tricky one! Ask your child to match them to the numeral. It may help your child to learn the number name if you put the correct number of corresponding dots beside the number name. Your child may wish to do paint finger prints on a separate square to match each number! Displaying the numbers and names somewhere prominent such as on the fridge where your child will see them often will help with recognition. |

Today we are learning to use language such as more or less to compare two numbers!
1.
Take out your 0-10 number line. Ask your child to point to various numbers by asking questions such as – one more than eight, one less than two, one more than nine, one less than five, two less than seven, two more than 0 etc.
2.
Ask your child to sort number cards from 0 – 10 into two groups – one group for numbers less than 5 and one group for numbers more than 5. Where will they put number 5?!
3.
Play this game – you have to decide whether there are more bugs of one colour than another and then catch them!

1.
Listen to the story ‘Henry the Fourth’.
This story is about four dogs in a dog show. They go on stage in order – 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Talk to your child about the relationship between the number and the ordinal (position), e.g. Baxter is number 2, so he is 2nd.

Today we are learning to use ordinal numbers (first, second, third and last)!
1.
Place your number cards 1-10 face down outside. You can also include the number words if you like. Ask your child to turn a square over – this is the number of items they have to find - they may be able to find lots of interesting things in the garden – leaves, daisies, blades of grass etc. They could then write the numeral next to the items in chalk on the ground.
2.
Listen to this fun song about 1st, 2nd, 3rd and last place! You can do the activity below the video too.
